Code Review
This pull request correctly removes the deprecated Dataset.to_torch method and its corresponding documentation.
However, the removal seems incomplete, and I have two main points of feedback:
- The
DataIterator.to_torchmethod, which was only called byDataset.to_torch, appears to be dead code now. Was it intended to keep this method? If not, it should probably be removed in this PR for code hygiene. The deprecation message forDataset.to_torchpointed users toiter_torch_batches, which suggests theto_torchpattern is being removed entirely. - Several tests in
python/ray/data/tests/test_torch.pythat rely on the removedto_torchmethod were not deleted (e.g.,test_tensors_in_tables_to_torch,test_tensors_in_tables_to_torch_mix). These tests will now fail and should be removed or updated to use the new API.
Since these issues are outside the changed lines in this PR, I'm leaving this feedback in the general comment. Addressing these points would make this cleanup more complete.
